It’s Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week!
Maternal Mental Health disorders include a range of disorders including depression, anxiety, and psychosis and can occur within pregnancy or the postpartum period (together often referred to as the perinatal period).
When left untreated, these disorders can cause devastating consequences for the mother, her baby, her family and society. These illnesses can be caused by a combination of biological, psychological, and social stressors, such lack of support.
Maternal mental health awareness week is a week-long campaign dedicated to talking about mental illness during pregnancy or after having a baby and signposting to support for all mums. The focus is on advocating for mums affected by maternal mental health and helping them to access the information and help they need to enable recovery.
The theme for this year is ‘Mums Matter’.
As you all know I still have my own struggles but always want to be there for other people as I’ve only managed to survive motherhood with having a great support network. I know I’m very lucky but some people aren’t 😩
We are all very good at putting on a show and hiding how we feel because we don’t want to be seen like we’re not good mums but we are! you know that you’re got this! Sometimes we just need alittle help! its okay not to be okay! sometimes you need to cry, have a break away to catch a breath! I know that I do!
